Nanta is non-verbal performance which is the combination of Korean traditional performance called ‘Samullnori’ and western form of performance. Instead of using various Korean traditional instruments, it uses pans, knives, and pots- objects that you can find in a kitchen- as its instruments. That is why the performance called ‘Cooking’ in English. It first debuted in 1997, since then, more than 350,000 audiences in different ages and backgrounds viewed this performance. The specialty of Nanta is that it created its own Samullnori using objects that can be found easily in our daily life. Due to its popularity, the theater was built for only this highly praised performance. The first theater opened in July 1, 2000 and the second theater was opened in Gangnam area in 2002. About 80 % of its audiences are foreigners and it has become one of the must-see performances in Korea.
